Karl, the central figure in the drama, took a leap of faith and asked Cassandra to marry him. But instead of a joyful 'yes,' Cassandra's reaction was, well, let's just say it left us with a cliffhanger that has fans on the edge of their seats.
Initially, Cassandra seems to think Karl is joking. He starts with a hypothetical: "Could you see yourself marrying me?" Her response? A surprised, "Holy crap." Then comes the real question: "Will you marry me?" And that's when things get interesting. Cassandra's face betrays a look of strain, her response is a far cry from the expected romantic bliss.
So, what's behind Cassandra's hesitation? According to series creator Ian Weir, it's about Cassandra's guarded nature. "She's just a very guarded person," he explains. "And being brought to the moment where she actually has to decide and say what she's decided is terrifying."
But here's where it gets controversial... Weir admits the proposal has an "impulsive quality," but insists Karl's feelings are genuine. He's been sure of Cassandra since their first date. Yet, there are still obstacles. Cassandra hasn't fully opened up to Karl, and there are unspoken areas in their relationship. This hesitation makes the prospect of taking the next step in communication quite daunting.
If the show gets renewed for Season 3, Weir envisions the couple navigating these challenges. "I would find it quite certainly heart-wrenching, but also in many ways impossible, to consider breaking Karl and Cassandra up," he says.
However, with no Season 3 renewal yet, Cassandra's response could be the series finale. We may never know if she would have accepted Karl's proposal.
