A Relaxing Day and a Taste of Home: Navigating the Trail's End
A well-deserved break and a day of indulgence await!
After a late night, I allowed myself to sleep in, a rare luxury on the trail. Waking up at 9 AM felt like a dream, and I savored the knowledge that the day stretched ahead, free from any rush.
I prepared for the day and reached out to Steam Engine, my hiking buddy, about our Denny's breakfast plan. This classic diner, a stone's throw away, offered a taste of home, much like IHOP. I indulged in a coffee and an Oreo milkshake, followed by a hearty breakfast spread, including eggs, toast, sausage, and my favorite, strawberry and cream crêpes. We spent a leisurely morning chatting and enjoying each other's company.
But here's where it gets controversial... I had some important calls to make. My parents, whom I hadn't spoken to in a while, were on the other end of the line. Initially, no one answered, but my dad called back while I was running errands, and we had a lengthy chat. I then caught up with my mom, feeling grateful for the connection.
After resupplying and running errands, I was ready to tackle the next phase: editing. I knew it would take a few days to catch up, but I planned to take a well-deserved zero day before the trail's end. I wanted to be prepared, so I worked diligently, editing videos and blog posts. The writing, however, is the most challenging and time-consuming part, requiring deep thought and focus.
And this is the part most people miss... when I'm feeling lazy or tired, I tend to stick to the easier tasks like video editing or creating thumbnails. Writing is an art that demands presence and energy, so I save it for when I'm feeling inspired. Today, I managed to make significant progress, and it felt great.
The day was a perfect blend of work and relaxation. I hung out in my room, editing and taking breaks with Steam Engine. Later in the evening, more hikers arrived, and we received messages from Woods and Stew, who were planning a day off.
The prospect of a zero day in Lordsburg, a town with limited amenities, was tempting. But here's the twist: taking a zero day here, with its vibrant hiking community, seemed like a better idea. I'll decide tomorrow, depending on how I feel. The presence of fellow hikers makes the idea of staying even more appealing.
As the sun set, casting its golden glow on the parking lot, I returned to my room, continuing my editing work. Later, I ordered Domino's, even though it was just a short walk away. The generous delivery person brought me a pizza and cinnamon bread, and I was pleasantly surprised to receive an extra serving of the latter.
I spent the rest of the night working and indulging in my food. Despite my late night, I eventually wound down and called it a day. As I drifted off to sleep, I considered the possibility of taking a zero day tomorrow, but I'll decide in the morning. It's a choice between tomorrow and a few days from now, and I'm excited to see how I feel.
